On balance, streaming users are relatively satisfied with the content they watch. Half say they are somewhat satisfied, and 10% say they are not too or not at all satisfied. The exception to these patterns is ESPN+, which adults of all ages are about equally likely to use. For example, 80% of adults under 30 and 81% of those 30 to 49 use Netflix, compared with 70% of those 50 to 64 and 53% of those 65 and older. As new streaming platforms continuously emerge, Americans have a wealth of options. Here are the questions used for this analysis, the topline and the survey methodology.

Trends in trust in scientists

Including those who lean toward one of the two major parties, 92% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents voted for Trump, while 94% of Democrats and Democratic leaners voted for Harris. Though most Black voters continued to prefer the Democratic candidate, a larger share of Black voters cast ballots for Trump in 2024 than in 2020 or 2016. Roughly eight-in-ten Black voters (83%) reported voting for Harris in 2024, while 15% favored Trump.

Roughly two-in-ten naturalized citizens who voted in 2024 had not voted in 2020 (22%), and a 57% majority of this group voted for Trump in 2024. Meanwhile, among the naturalized citizens who voted in 2020 but dropped off in 2024, 67% were Biden voters in the earlier election. Among people who voted, more than nine-in-ten Republicans (95%) voted for their party’s candidate in the 2024 election, and an identical share of Democrats voted for Harris.

In the overall electorate and among key demographic groups, Republican-leaning eligible voters simply were more likely to turn out than Democratic-leaning eligible voters in 2024. For the most part, voting patterns across demographic groups in the 2024 presidential election were not substantially different from the 2020 and 2016 elections. But Donald Trump’s gains among several key groups of voters proved decisive in his 2024 victory. To explore voting patterns among subgroups over time, refer to detailed tables.

  • We use this term interchangeably with “H-1B approval” and “approved H-1B application.” Fiscal years end on Sept. 30 of the designated year.
  • However, the in-depth interviews are not representative of any demographic group or AI experts as a whole.
  • The Appendix also includes views of medical scientists, whose ratings are very similar to those for scientists generally.
  • The Washington, D.C., and San Jose, California, metro areas had the next-highest totals, with more than 30,000 approvals each.
  • AI experts are far more positive than the public about AI’s potential, including on jobs.

Finally, we asked people how likely they are to watch programming on streaming services in the next year – regardless of whether they currently do. For the 2024 and 2020 presidential elections, we have sufficient data to look at vote choice among citizens who report having been born in another country – in other words, naturalized U.S. citizens. Educational differences among White and Hispanic voters, but not Black voters.

Communication is seen as an area of relative weakness for scientists.

Large gaps are also present in views about AI’s effect on the economy, medical care, education and art. The public is far more likely to think AI will harm them (43%) than benefit them (24%). Still, opinions among experts vary, with men more optimistic about AI than research and experimentation tax credit women.

Changing travel dates may invalidate the offer and/or result in a holiday price change (e.g. if the flight cost is higher/lower). Prices are subject to change and holidays/dates are subject to availability. Holiday price savings – on selected holidays, we may show a comparison to a higher price for the same package.

Not all workers with approved H-1B applications hold H-1B visas. Foreign workers can legally work in the U.S. once USCIS has issued an approved H-1B application. If the worker is located outside the U.S., they can then use their approved application to apply for an H-1B visa from the State Department to enter the U.S. legally.

  • These surveys reveal both deep divides and common ground on AI.
  • By contrast, nearly as many (48%) say they should focus on establishing sound scientific facts and stay out of public policy debates.
  • We also did not receive enough responses from experts working at nonprofits, in government or self-employed to break out these groups separately.
  • Since 2013, the majority of approvals each year have been applications to renew employment.

While most adults are current streaming users, another 7% have used streaming services in the past. Unaffiliated voters continued to favor the Democratic candidate, with 70% voting for Harris and 28% voting for Trump. Four years earlier, 71% of religiously unaffiliated voters selected Biden and 26% selected Trump. While Harris maintained the Democrats’ substantial advantage among urban voters, she did not make any gains within this group to offset her losses among suburban and rural voters. Urban voters favored Harris by roughly a two-to-one margin (65% vs. 33%) in 2024, just as they favored Biden by roughly two-to-one in 2020 (66% vs. 32%). Trump also benefited from changing turnout patterns – though not from significant defections – among suburban voters.

We aimed to capture a broad range of perspectives and expertise related to AI. The conferences covered topics including research and development, application, business, policy, social science, identity and ethics. For this project, we defined “AI experts” as individuals who demonstrate expertise via their work or research in artificial intelligence or related fields.

In 2020, 95% in each party also voted for their party’s nominee. Men – especially men under 50 – backed Trump by larger margins. Trump narrowly won men under age 50, a shift from 2020 when men in that age group favored Biden by 10 points. For more detailed views by education and party, refer to the Appendix. The share with a doctorate has varied between 6% and 13%, and the share with a professional degree (such as a J.D. or M.D.) has ranged between 2% and 6%.

In 2024, Hispanic women and Hispanic men were divided in their preferences for president. In 2020, Hispanic women were more likely than Hispanic men to vote for the Democratic candidate. Hispanic voters were divided in 2024, a major shift from 2020 and 2016.

In 2020, Joe Biden won Hispanic voters by 25 percentage points, and Hispanic voters supported Hillary Clinton by an even wider margin in 2016. But Trump drew nearly even with Kamala Harris among Hispanic voters, losing among them by only 3 points. In this analysis, the term “H-1B worker” refers to foreign workers whose H-1B applications were approved in a given fiscal year. We use this term interchangeably with “H-1B approval” and “approved H-1B application.” Fiscal years end on Sept. 30 of the designated year. The public is far more unsure than the experts we surveyed on this topic, with about four-in-ten or more U.S. adults expressing uncertainty. Both experts and the public see men’s views as better represented in AI design than the views of women. For example, 75% of experts say the people who design AI take men’s perspectives into account at least somewhat well – but 44% say this about women’s views. And the public is more likely than the experts we surveyed to expect AI-related job loss for occupations like musicians, teachers and medical doctors.
